Proper Monitor Set-Up

Lately I have had a few sound techs approach me with questions of monitor set-up. The underlying issue is whether it is better to have a properly working monitor speaker, or a well hidden monitor speaker. My first response is "yes." I shared with the techs this little nugget:

When Muddy Creek plays a show, we never sacrifice sound quality for aesthetics. It is our paramount goal to provide our fans with the best sound quality available and monitors play a huge role. That said, the market for monitors is flooded with great options. Ear monitors emit comparable sound quality to floor monitors, and Muddy Creek likes the portability of ear monitors. I believe floor monitors will be obsolete in five years.
